DAVID KIRSCH IN A NEW YORK MINUTE

Get the latest buzz on David Kirsch plus a few “New York Minutes’” worth of tips, tricks and inspiration for your wellness journey.

When was the last time you said, “I have no energy to workout”?

Friday, June 11, 2010
I get this excuse just about every day, and to a certain extent, I understand it. When we are tired it is a natural reaction to feel like we don’t have the energy to go for a run or make it through a cardio-sculpting circuit, but don’t let your body fool you.

Inactivity actually causes us to feel even more lethargic and mentally fatigued than we would if we’d expended more energy working our body. Think of a day when you sat on the couch and watched TV for hours. Now, compare that to how you felt after even your toughest of workouts. Which scenario gave you a boost?

Physical activity is key to keeping your energy level high. Even short bursts – 10 invigorating minutes – of exercise will get your blood flowing and improve your brain functioning.

Jog In Place with Medicine Ball - one of the moves from David’s express workout

The next time you are tired or fried, take a break and do one of my express workouts from my ‘David Kirsch In a New York Minute’ series, created for The Ultimate New York Diet. You can do them anywhere, anytime. Even the busiest of New Yorkers have been able to do these exercises from work or on the road and in doing so, have found that they have achieved more during their day because they felt more focused, creative and alert. Let me know how it goes!

What if you had more energy?

Thursday, June 10, 2010
What if you had more energy? Would you invest more time in your family, your work or your own well-being? My job is to help you find that energy and use it to become the best you can be. Here are 5 things you can start doing now to Energize Your Day.

  1. Eat 5 times a day (every 3 hours). Fueling up with a diet rich in protein, fiber, B vitamins, iron and plenty of water, will help keep you hydrated, satisfied, energized and your metabolic furnace burning.
  2. Stay away from high-glycemic, artificially flavored foods and energy drinks — they'll give you an initial energy boost, but you're likely to come crashing down just as quickly.
  3. Get your blood flowing with short bursts of exercise: Get up and walk or better yet, complete one of my 10-Minute Express Workouts (see my Ultimate New York Diet Book!)
  4. Give yourself a pep talk. Stop and think about all that you have accomplished and remind yourself of your ability to get things done.
  5. Replenish your energy level with sleep … at least 6 hours of it!

Energize for Life!

Wednesday, June 09, 2010

My job is all about helping you Energize For Life!  Everything I have created for you – whether it’s my books, DVDs or line of One Of A Kind Supplements® -- is intended to help you find the energy, passion and focus you need to become the best you can be.

It takes a combination of exercise, the right fuel, motivation, and of course, rest and recovery, to keep you running on all cylinders day in and day out. I should know. I test this everyday, starting at 5AM! I workout, feed my girls and then begin an intense day training clients, work on my next book and juggle the ins and outs of my Wellness business. If I wasn’t properly fueled or taking care of my body, I could not perform at the highest level or be the person I was meant to be.

Over the next few days, I’d like to share some of my tips on staying energized during the most demanding of days. I hope you’ll discover new ways to feel more energized than ever before.
